GEM 1.2
From GEMWiki
GEM 1.2 (September 1985) made various improvements to GEM 1.1, keeping the user interface largely unchanged. New features included:
- The Print Spooler desk accessory.
- The Install Application screen was redesigned, and now showed a preview of the application's icon.
- Applications could be associated with more than one file type.
- DOS applications could be run in 'full memory', where GEM would be shut down before the application was run and restarted afterwards.
- The Item Selector could now go 'up' from the root directory of a drive to show the drive list.
- It was possible to scroll windows by holding down the mouse button on the scroll bar buttons; previously the user would have to click the buttons repeatedly.
- Sound effects could be turned on or off. Different tones of beep were supported; double-clicking the icon in the desktop About box would play a little tune.
- Internally, the memory management was changed so that if GEM was started in a low-memory situation it would use smaller internal tables and not try to load desk accessories.
